Avery Brewing Co. Announces Plans
to Exit 8 States and 7 Partial State Markets
Boulder, CO - Avery Brewing Company plans to withdraw from eight states and seven other partial-state markets beginning in April. Faced with skyrocketing demand--first quarter 2011 production growth for their home state of Colorado is 81% and overall production growth is 75%--the brewery has been forced to make the tough decision or lose the ability to support all markets with a steady supply of fresh beer.
Beginning in April 2011 beer shipments will be ceased to Arizona, Connecticut, Indiana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Rhode Island and Tennessee. Avery Brewing Company hopes to re-enter these eight states at some point in the future once production capacity can catch up with demand. The brewery is also leaving several partial state markets, including: Northern California (Bay Area and Sacramento), Eastern Arkansas, Upstate New York (outside of New York City), Central Florida (Orlando area) and Wisconsin.
Avery Brewing Company would like to extend a sincere and heartfelt thank you to those who have supported us--and our beers--in these markets over the past years. To our distributors and their hard working sales staff, to our retailers in on-premise and off-premise channels who have promoted our products with zeal and passion, and to our loyal customers and fans who have challenged their palates and enjoyed our beers over the years: thank you, thank you, thank you!! Our apologies for any frustrations this change brings your way. According to Avery Brewing President/Founder Adam Avery, "We all feel terrible about having to pull out of these markets. No matter how you cut it, it is disappointing that we'll no longer be able to serve our loyal fans in these areas. " Ted Whitney, National Sales Director at Avery Brewing Company, added "This is certainly unfortunate, but it was done with the best intentions. It's about getting fresher beer and better experiences for our customers."
Avery Brewing Company is one of several craft breweries to announce such cuts in 2011, but these disappointing changes are actually the sign of a very positive trend in the industry. Exponential sales growth for craft brewers can only mean one thing: the craft beer movement is on fire, attracting more followers and gaining mindshare with people of all demographics across the country. More fans means more market potential for all of the craft industry, and that's a very good thing that will bring more great beer into the lives of Americans everywhere. Here's to American craft beer in 2011 and beyond!!

9th Annual Boulder Strong Ale Festival Nets Nearly 16k for Craft Brewer In Need
Boulder, CO - The Boulder Strong Ale Festival took place at the Barrel-Aging Cellars of Avery Brewing Company last weekend, offering 103 beers over 8% abv to the 1000+ craft beer lovers who flocked to the 9th annual event. The festival, which has earned a reputation as being one of the most "beer" diverse in the state, featured 56 different breweries hailing from as far away as Maine.
The festival raised nearly $16,000 for charity thanks to the combined efforts of the participating breweries--all of which generously donated their beers--dozens of volunteers, and the Brewers Association which donated the tapping equipment. The beneficiary was Brit Antrim, a well-liked and highly respected twenty-year veteran of the craft beer industry in Colorado who was seriously injured while on the job in Colorado last October. The proceeds will go to helping his transition to a new lifestyle.
According to Adam Avery, who founded the Strong Ale Festival nine years ago and who's company, Avery Brewing, presented the event, "It was a no-brainer to try and raise money for Brit with the Strong Ale Festival this year. We're just glad to work in such a tight-knit and generous industry."

Avery Brewing Co. Ramps Up Production for 2011 After 30% Growth in 2010
Boulder Brewery Spent Over $1 Million on Capital Improvements in 2010 To Meet Production Demand
Boulder, CO - Adam Avery, President and Brewmaster of Boulder's Avery Brewing Company, has signed checks for close to $1 million in capital improvements and brewery expansion over the past 12 months. Under normal conditions, that kind of investment in production capacity would leave any small brewer with ample room for continued growth, but these are anything but normal conditions. Demand for Avery beer is already outstripping production capacity just a few short weeks after new tanks were installed, and it is showing no sign of letting up.
Over the course of 2010 Avery installed 5 new fermentation vessels at their brewing facility on Boulder's east side. Alongside the new tanks sits a brand new Cask canning line, which has been used to can four different beers since September of this year, and a half-million dollar centrifuge system will arrive any day.
According to Adam Avery, "2009 was a slow growth year for us, a 'blip' in the radar of what we had come to expect for yearly growth. Instead of backing down and being conservative, we decided to dive in head first and commit ourselves to fixing that blip with investments in new people, new packaging and new equipment to make even better beer." By most accounts, the risk appears to have paid off. Avery Brewing sales increased at a rate of 51% for the State of Colorado in the second half of 2010, with sales of their flagship beer, Avery IPA, up 74% for the same timeframe.
2011 is looking even brighter. Judging by orders received and slated to ship in January 2011, Avery sales for this month should see an increase in the line of 70% over January 2010. The success of Avery Brewing Co. reflects a larger trend across the craft beer industry. According to the Boulder based Brewers Association, craft beer sales grew 9% by volume over the first half of 2010, despite overall beer sales declining by 2.7% during that same timeframe.
Established in 1993, Avery Brewing Company has developed a reputation as being one of the most daring and visionary breweries in the nation. They are the brewers of Avery IPA, The Maharaja Imperial IPA, White Rascal Belgian Wheat Ale, Mephistopheles' Stout and eighteen other year-round and seasonal beers.
